ऐ चमन वालो! चमन से यूं गुज़रना चाहिये
कि बाग़बान भी ख़ुश रहे, राज़ी रहे सय्याद भी

aye chaman vaalo! chaman se yuun guzarnaa chaahiye
ki baaghbaan bhii khush rahe raazi rahe saiyaad bhii

O residents of the garden, live your life in such a manner
That both, the gardener and the hunter are pleased

आँख खोलते ही तसव्वुर यार का रूपोश था
फिर वही मैं था वही दरियाए-ग़म का जोश था

aankh kholte hii tasavvur yaar kaa ruuposh thaa
phir vahii main thaa vahii dariyaae-gham kaa josh thaa

As soon as I opened my eyes, my beloved disappeared
And I was lonely, engulfed in the same river of misery

[The poet had been dreaming about his beloved. As soon as he woke up, he found that she had vanished. Hence the misery.]
