ROZ EK SHER

koi us des ka mil jaye to itna poochhein
aajkal apne masiha-nafsaan kaise hain
aandhiyaan to suna udhar bhi aaiin
kompalein kaisee hain sheeshe ka makaan kaise hain
--Teg Ilahabadi

If you run into someone from that country please ask him
How is our beloved these days
I had heard about the storms in there
How are the tender shoots and glass houses?

N.B. Teg Ilahabadi (real name Mustafa Zaidi) was an Urdu poet who
shifted to Pakistan after partition, but never stopped loving India.

He was born and educated in Allahabad. This is why he called himself
Teg Ilahabadi.

Many of his shers reflect a lasting concern for the country and culture
he left behind in India. The above shers exemplify this trait in his
poetry.
